Hearing Impairment

Sensorineural Hearing Loss also known as

nerve deafness,is an ailment which causes

loss of hearing and can be traced back to

the working of the inner ear, in

particular the nerves between the ear and

the brain or in some instances nervous

system failure in the brain itself.

Even though Sensorineural Hearing Loss is

considered to be a disease with no known

causes such as age, which is often

attributed to Presbycusis hearing loss,

many researchers have decided on theories

as that to what the possible causes of

the disease could be.

these theories stay away from other

common causes of hearing loss such as

hereditary conditions or trauma

damage. Some of the more common theories

used to try and explain the disease are

that as result of a viral infection such

as influenza or a vascular disease such

as leukemia or sickle cell anemia the

inner ear has lost actual nerve function.

In cases of babies suffering Hearing Loss

it can be most noticed as either a lack

response to the sounds around them or

perhaps a complete lack of normal noise

that a baby would make.In cases such as

these you should seek medical advice

immediately.

The effects of the disease are more

heavily recorded in adult cases for

obvious reasons.Often associated with the

inability to distinguish speech when

there is background noise present, the

first sounds to usually be lost are those

of S,F and Z.There are common ailments

that could be caused as a side effects of

the disease such as tinnitus which is

best described as a constant ringing of

the ears or wertigo which effectsyour

balance and often leaves you feeling

dizzy.

When going to your problems with your

hearing you should make sure that they

have a good procedure of testing to help

indentify the problem correctly.Extensive

hearing tests must be conducted to

indentify the extent of the

damage.Itwould be prudent for you to seek

out any history of hearing problems

within your family before visiting your

doctor .

Not all hearing loss is treatable but

there are methods available that can make

living with the damage a little

easier, the most common of which is a

hearing aid.A hearing aid sits snuggly

inside the ear and has a small microphone

and a speaker that amplifies the sound

to make it more audible.

A cochlear implant is at the other end of

the spectrum to a hearing aid.
Sometimes considered a controversial

method,rather than amplifying the sound

it actually stimulates your inner ear to

function as its should.they consist of

components that are internally implanted

in the skull and ear,and external parts

that are worn by the user.

Sensorineural Hearing Loss is an ailment

that can affect anyone and at different

times of your life.Depending on your

general hearing problems, it
would be a sensible idea to ask your

doctor for advice as too how to avoid

future damage, even if you seem to have

no problems now, you never know what the

future holds.
